Hurricane on the horizon....

If you are in the mood for a GREAT post about Palin (I realize some of you are supporters), but there are still quite a few who can totally appreciate this POST. I found this so creative and very true at the same time.

McCain did not back off this statement when interviewed on the early morning news programs today. He blathered on and on the same puke he has been delivering for weeks. When questioned about the "earmarks" of Sarah Palin and given her multi-million dollar requests for 2009 - he said that it wasn't true. Excuse me, this is factual and documented.

The unfortunate meltdown of yesterday and possibly AIG today (the day isn't over), how can people still be so supportive of a man who has adamantly stated before, that he knows very little about the economy? And Sarah Palin with her well scripted speeches is telling these crowds (attendance figures escalated by McCain camp) the same rhetoric we have been hearing over and over.

I find it very sad, that in this modern age, people are flocking to the Republican ticket because they have a WOMAN - and there are those afraid of the Democratic ticket because there is a BLACK man. Pathetic!!! One representative was calculating the voting trend and referred to the "Bubba" vote, which totally infuriated me. I'm beginning to think that maybe people should be required to take a test in order to vote sanely - of course that would never happen.

More news to gather - be back soon.....TTFN!

Just a footnote before going to bed...

I heard portions of a speech today "recited" by Sarah Palin (we all know she is spoonfed by the speechwriters), and she declared that the practice of Wall Street rewarding incompetent CEO's with "golden parachutes" will end. Hmmm...yet McCain's spokeswoman Carly Fiorina (former HP CEO) will be reaping a $21 million dollar rip-cord of her own! Hypocrisy at its best.

Do these people honestly believe they can bullshit me as they (these female spokespersons, Fiorina and Pfote...can't spell it) sit through these interviews in their multi thousand dollar wardrobes and perfectly coiffed do's??? I am a helluva lot smarter than that - and I will find out the truth or research the facts before I let your batting eyes try to sway me. I know that women are honestly smarter than that....so watch out McCain/Palin, we are getting mad as well as inspired!

The days are counting down and everyone is getting more tuned in - I suggest scrutiny on everyone's part from now till Nov. 4th.

With that bit of wit...I'm crashing for the night. TTFN.

We'd be in JAIL if we were caught...

managing a PYRAMID scheme. But that is what the largest creditors of this country have been doing for years. Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, Fannie & Freddie...the banking regulations of this country have essentially remained the same as established after the Great Depression of '29. The biggest change has to take place in regulatory standards IMMEDIATELY! Oversight comes to mind also.

Fox's Megyn Kelly Grills Tucker Bounds On False Tax Claims

Tucker Bounds is still "skirting" direct questioning as seen here. I'm surprised that FOX news was the interviewer, but highly impressed. It appears Bounds can't hold his own very well against "women." There I'm sexist - live with it...hahaha.

The time has come to FIGHT back...

Listening to all the Sunday political discussions, the common thread was - how low McCain has sunk in his attack ads. The downright lies and distortions are ringing loudly. It is time for the Obama team to strike hard - and essentially I don't believe they have to stoop to the same level...just using their (McCain/Palin) own words (in entirety) is enough.

In talking with so many people lately, the general consensus is quite the same...that we know the McCain ads are lies, but there are so many people (voters) who only believe what they see and hear. Heaven forbid people would take the extra step necessary to "check" the accuracy and truths (or half-truths) of these ads. It is a case of playing to the susceptible, for lack of a better phrase.

I have argued till I'm blue in the face with one local, and he has the computer capabilities and knowledge to check all this information, yet relies totally on sham e-mails he receives. Duh??? His argument is that he sees who sends him the e-mail and past recipients, and these are all good people - therefore they (e-mails) cannot be wrong. GIVE ME CYANIDE CAPSULES NOW!! That is the "brick wall" mentality I have referred to.

Karl Rove even stated over the weekend that McCain had made statements that weren't maybe 100% accurate - he also said Obama's team was in the same category. I disagree as do quite a few pundits, commentators, etc. Obama's ads had no blatant distortions or lies - statistics were misrepresented - but nowhere near to the extent that the McCain camp has stooped.

In all my 40 years of voting, I have never seen the outrageous lies as we are seeing now. It makes me ashamed at times to refer to our democratic society. But in truth I guess being a Democracy allows that kind of speech - although now is the time to stand up to the lies.

Time is winding down fast till we cast our ballots - and more fire is going to be spewed from all sides. I should hope that the gloves are off in the debates and we will see then who can hold up to the rigors and decisions that will be required of our next President.

*************************************************************************************

Well, we got part of Hurricane Ike here - winds hitting 70 mph and gust higher at times. I didn't need to worry about the rain - it skirted northwest of us, but I had to worry about the 50 foot trees behind my house. I was afraid they would come crashing down. Thankfully, I just have some large branches to get removed - I will try to drag them to the creek bank. I had a 10'X10' canopy on my back deck, and the wind was raising it up - I thought it was going to turn into a missile. I then started taking it down - a real fun task by oneself. Thegrandson wasn't much help, but I managed to get it all put away - one less thing to worry about.

Several schools are cancelled because of "no power" - our power was on/off so many times, I gave up resetting the clocks. Columbus, Ohio has almost 300,000 people without power today. Thedaughter was getting calls for hotel rooms (Wheeling WV) from those in Columbus (2 hours away) - because they just wanted their comfy amenities. Unbelievably, all the hotels in the area booked solid rather quickly.

Well, break time - the O.J. trial is starting - can't miss that one. later guys. TTFN

Think about this for a moment....

I remember that Jeffrey Dahmer started out killing animals too!

Hey Uncle Zac...check out my hair!

Mommy used a flat iron to get my blond curls straight and....voila'! You just had to go and cut your long curls off, and I'm letting mine grow for awhile. How do you like it?

John McCain's ads are LIES. Here's the video proof.

This is the most irritating part of the election process. The lies made during the campaign process - get my Irish up and running.

I stated before, that McCain must have a video crew on "standby", because as soon as the Obama camp makes a statement - a McCain TV ad appears - distorting the context of what was said. All these claims (misstatements) can be verified, but the ugly truth is, a great percentage of people actually BELIEVE what they see and hear in these ads, and never give a second thought to verifying the claims.

In this technological age, and even if one does not own a computer, libraries are very helpful - all these statements and claims can be verified almost instantly. FactCheck.org is an excellent site for checking on truths, half-truths or plain old lies.

I watched clips of McCain being interviewed on "The View" and he wriggled and squirmed around most of the answers. I encourage everyone to check out the sites available - and they are unbiased - in the search for truth.

On Bill Maher last night, John Fund of the Wall Street Journal made a blanket statement that over 50% of the women in this country are in love with Sarah Palin, but could not back the statement up with true data or reasons "why." He was eager to support McCain's camp claims of sexism being used by Obama with regularity. GIVE ME A BREAK!! Needless to say, he was shot down rather quickly by Janeane Garafalo and Salmon Rushdie ....and Maher. So far, I have been totally unimpressed with Palins interviews with Charlie Gibson. As an aside, McCain (on The View) and Palin in Alaska (w/ Gibson) are still citing the same talking points from the speech she has been giving in the Midwest. C'mon now, I think we all can recite the speech verbatim - as it has not changed one iota. And it has to be noted that McCain has been called out on the distortions and lies - yet continues to recite them over and over ad nauseum.

Everyone use that gray matter - make an intelligent and deliberate decision based on facts - not half-truths, lies and complete distortions. I should hope that we have a much more intelligent electorate than in the past.

It's storming and yucky outside and I have nothing better to do at the moment than blather on - have a great day. Be back later. TTFN

hmmm. this was Oct. 2007...did I hear what I...

thought I heard????

Again, and this was recorded from Fox News...proving that candidates never really check themselves and have the tendency to flip-flop! Joy Behar literally put John McCain on the hot seat today, and he squirmed.

Please define "CERTAIN DEATH!"

The news agencies (all of them) have reported on the status of Hurricane Ike - as potentially going to cause "certain death." I am not illiterate nor ignorant, and I actually know what this infers...but does the media??? Really????

CNN, Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC and all the other letters, have their reporters in the "hit" area - ready to give us on the spot coverage - AGAIN!! I wonder if "certain death" only applies to a select group, group(s) that DO NOT INCLUDE reporters. After Hanna hit in the Gulf of Mexico last week - and from what I am discerning, Ike will be much harder - I can envision reporters "blowing away" in front of our eyes. I have said before that I am quite the news junkie...but I do so prefer NOT to see death on the screen, from a live reporter.

As this storm progresses northward, it appears we may get some offshoot from winds and rain. (Located near the PA-WV-OH border.) When Hurricane Ivan tore inward on September 17, 2004 - we were inundated with 9" rain in three hours. I had almost 3 feet of water in my basement and lost almost $20,000 in property. My nerves are always on edge when I hear of a big rain or storm coming.

This was my best friend Jean (passed away 10-17-07), helping me clean up the aftermath of basement flooding. We had waaay too much fun - trying to make the best of a bad situation that day (and several days thereafter).

OK, gonna run for now - I have seen short clips of the Palin interview and I'm going to see if I can find a video clip of the entire video. My understanding is that since it is being released in installments, that may be a dim hope. ** Just a note, I was NOT impressed with what I heard so far. She is very mechanical and repeating lines spoon fed to her it appears. We shall see though.

Did anyone catch the Poliotical Forum televised last night? Some interesting points there!

TTFN - things to do!! Everyone have a good one.

Lovely day to see the sites in Amish Country...

My neighbor Toni and I left at 8:30 this morning - and it was truly a beautiful day to head to Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, and Berlin, Ohio. The trip up is approximately 1 1/2 hours - but the countryside is gorgeous. The farms, the decorated homes are all just great to see. The closer you get to Sugarcreek, you might see the buggies and beautifully maintained farms.

We managed to trudge through quite a few shops and garnered some interesting trinkets we cannot get here at home. I was particularly looking for lace mantel scarves...which are practically unheard of in this area. I do not have any fireplaces or mantels, but I LOVE shelves and have 2 - 5 foot shelves where I display either my snowman or Santa collections. So our first stop was at Broad Run, which has a tremendous selection of lace curtains, table scarves, runners and MANTEL scarves. I found a beautifully designed "heirloom" scarf and will have it on the shelf probably after Halloween (I have a black lace - with spiders scarf). Thegrandson was less than impressed with that purchase.

Skeleton keys are a big thing now and I found one large and one medium key tied together with ribbon that look great hanging from the peg on one of my shelves. The largest place we went was the Holmes County Flea Market, which is two stories of various vendors and merchandise. One has to be prepared to do a lot of walking to see it all. I found a gorgeous heart shaped wreath of orange and gold berries for the front door. We definitely saw a large quantity of the same or similar merchandise at most of the places - but the best part is - it is not here at home!

Most of our shopping was done after a great lunch of homemade cooking (the name will come to me - but a family style Amish restaurant.) Not the Der Dutchman - you know - the other one...hahaha!

Our trip ended when I limped in the door at 6:30 pm. My back, legs and all body parts are crying out in pain - but it was all worth the fun!

Watching the Political Forum on CNN now, so I may be heading to bed quite soon. More later...g'night!

9/11 - WHERE WERE YOU?

theMuch like when JFK was assassinated, we have a tendency to remember the exact happenings of the specific day and days that followed.

I was in 5th grade when the principal came to each class and said school was being dismissed. We were not told why, that would come as we got to our homes. My twin and I were told by the housekeeper (remember parents were older & distant) and she immediately took us to her families farm in Ohio for the next several days.

As for September 11, 2001 - I was in town at my local haunt (a Greek restaurant) and someone came in and asked if I noticed that a plane had apparently crashed into the WTC. There was a small 13" TV by the register and we all surrounded the tiny thing, and it was no time before we saw another plane hit - which registered with us before the TV anchor even noticed. I had no clue what was going on - just that something tragic was happening. I came home, turned on the news (all channels were tuned in by this point), yelled for theson to come downstairs. I needed company at that point - thedaughters (both) were at work and immediately started calling home - because they had no TV and were only hearing dribs from customers coming in the store.

Theson and I were glued to the TV, tossing back and forth various theories. I reminded him of when the WTC was bombed (thru parked vehicle in underground parking lot) in 1993. He was in high school then and didn't pay attention to news like that. The hardest part was watching the towers fall - I just sat and cried, sobbing - it was all so senseless. Then the reports were being clarified of the planes hitting the Pentagon and the plane that they thought was heading to Camp David - which was Flight 93 which went down not far from here in Shankstown, PA.

Oddly enough, theson had planned on giving blood that day anyway, so we headed to the Fire Department where the line was incredibly long, but he managed to "give it up." We filled the cars with gas, and all sat around the TV for the remainder of the day, through the night, into the next several days.

Theson would be leaving for New York and training for his job, and be off to his travels around the world from that point, within a few weeks. He has encountered all the travel restrictions and changes in our NEW terrorist alert status. The new color coded "watch" chart was revealed - and our lives have never been the same.

Yes, I remember well and will never forget. I grieve for all the lives lost for such a senseless cause. I am also saddened that the almighty dollar has prevented the rebuilding at the WTC site. One would think that a structure would have been at least started by now. Bureaucracy at its best I guess!

I'm off to Amish country - even taking the camera, so I may be back on here later tonight. Have a good day all and TTFN!

Everyone just GROW UP...

I have said it before, this election for our next administration has gone on way too long. Almost 2 years, if not longer, is definitely dragging things out. But now we get into the mud and childish claims.

The McCain/Palin ticket has been traversing the Midwest and the speeches ARE THE SAME! Palin is so repetitious we can all recite her lines verbatim. McCain does not shoot well from the hip, therefore, his remarks are always the same. He introduces the issues and goes no further. We need substance and details, not rhetoric.

This latest "lipstick" issue is a little overboard for me. The remark was taken out of context by the McCain people (see the ENTIRE video) and those who missed the speech, have no idea that he was referring to the failed policies of the Bush Administration. McCain made a speech May 2, 2008, and in referencing "Hillary's failed health care plan", he directly used the same remark. Now that was a more personal attack, since he had implicitly referred to Mrs. Clinton. But that is neither here nor there, I see no hostile insult in the statement at all. One must also know that Torie Clarke, a former McCain adviser, wrote a book called "Lipstick on a Pig: Winning the No-Spin Era by Someone Who Knows the Game."

The McCain team is flooding the airwaves, through all media, that they demand an apology - as this was directed at Palin. C'mon - get a grip! Act like mature thinking adults and get on to business. Issues and facts need to be addressed - but as we can see - this election is turning into a game of personalities. Again, as I said before, Sarah Palin better grow thicker skin - she chose to play with the big dogs, she better be able to fight with them too. No whining or hiding behind McCain's media advisers.

Wow - 2 6.0+ earthquakes today - wonder if all those atoms or protons colliding did a little damage. (Can you tell I'm not a scientist?)

I'm taking a break tomorrow - my neighbor and I are going to Amish country for a little shopping. I can't really afford it, but may see something neat and interesting. I haven't been there since I last went with my late best friend Jean. Thedaughter has 2 days off in a row, so I am taking advantage of the time.

Everyone play nice - and I will be back - maybe sooner than later - one never knows! TTFN!

I am so GOOD I amaze myself...

This is for theson....I fooled with the html and look I figured out the margin issue!! I am getting better with age! heehee

Religious beliefs....OFF LIMITS!

I will say it here and now, one thing I would never attack is ones' religious beliefs. It is a courtesy that I wish to be afforded me and definitely respect others in that area. The one statement I will make...it should NOT be an election issue. I believe in separation of Church & State - if only more people would step in line.

It is an unfortunate commentary that religion shapes ones opinion on so many vital matters. For example, birth control. the Catholics, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalians, on and on - all have varied viewpoints. Please, please, someone come up with another way to address these issues - or ---is there even another way??

Oh, could it be that government has become too intrusive in our lives and lawmaking already? That might be it. This subject can be argued back and forth through eternity - so I will leave it there.

My point...any candidates religious views are Off Limits to this blogger.

He actually SAID it...now I can vent a little...

Theson has been going through a very rough time for over a month, and his blogs have been tearing me apart. As it is with our children (no matter what age) we worry about their well-being constantly. He decided in April to ask his girlfriend of three years to marry him, bought a beautiful ring and was going to ask her in Aug or Sept
on a fantastic trip to Finland. When I visited in May, everything seemed fine and they were debating times to take the trip, etc. Then his world came crashing down the beginning of August.

Theson wears his heart on his sleeve, and when he loves someone, he loves unconditionally and solely. Monogomous is the word. He never tolerated his father's cheating ways and it just isn't in his "make-up" to be like that. His fine qualities far outweigh his "weirdness" at times. He has been going through the feelings of being 30 and possibly never finding "the one," which preys heavily on him.

As a mother, I can only encourage and try to lift his spirits - so much. I have had trouble sleeping, because all I can think is that he is so far away and I can't do a thing to help. He has a wonderful group of friends that have been supportive via the blog, which helps immensely. He will be meeting a good friend in Munich, Germany the end of this month for R&R - and hopefully a wonderful time. Of course he will, I think Oktoberfest will be wrapping up.

He has to move on and enjoy life as it is right now...one never knows what the future holds - there are always surprises around the corner.

I love ya son, and will always be here for you - ALWAYS!! Thegrandson misses him so much, everyday he asks if he is on Skype, but we haven't been able to see him that much lately.

Just a mother being able to speak out for now. Your support network is here!!!

My "sign-off" for the night...

Thanks Toni...I have seen this before but my neighbor and friend brought it to my attention again. The main point to this is: INCONSISTENCY!! I just can't make myself believe that McCain is physically/mentally able to handle the ills of this country, and this video somehow reinforces that fact.

Trying to be fair and balanced here, but I haven't found an argumentative Obama video to post yet.

Earmarks??? This may vary

by definition. This is one area that upsets me at times - depending on what the money requested is designated towards. Face it folks, earmarks are a much necessary evil. If we in "small towns" around the country had to come up with all the dollars necessary to upgrade our sewage treatment plants, major improvements to hospitals, and many huge projects we take for granted - they would never be done. It is the items "tacked" on for personal, stupid requests that need to be halted, i.e., the bridge to nowhere. But when appropriation time rolls around, that is when all the Senators receive requests from their constituents of their NEEDS. There is never a guarantee of approval, but if these monies were not requested for appropriation - every town would literally become a ghost town.

I suppose the alternative would be to increase property taxes, up any local income tax, add a wage tax...but we are TAXED to hell and back now. Realistically, these projects would still remain unfunded.

The "earmarks" of Obama which McCain is referring to can be found here. This is quite a list, but please, see what projects the requests are for. As a note, my understanding (and if anyone has the answer) is that hardly any of these earmarks were approved. But certainly 90% of the requested funds I find quite legitimate.

John McCain has been making the same comment repeatedly "in 24 years I have not had one single earmark." Excuse me, let's go back to 1992 first, John McCain had no qualms with this request. I have the links to more, but need to check them out first. Face it - it is a matter of definition as to what constitutes an earmark. Some Washington agencies state that an earmark is a project worth more than $52 million. So would that mean that a project under that figure would NOT be an earmark - guess so!

This is the semantics game underway. In the whole scheme of things, I want to see the bottom line on Health care plans, tax structure, employment. I have a feeling these facts will be coming soon from at least one camp - one has to wait and see.

My suggestion to Sarah Palin, QUIT REPEATING the same old things. I don't want to hear about that damn bridge, the Ebay plane sale (ha) and how you stood up to Big Oil. The facts are proving her wrong on so many fronts. October 2nd - she will debate Joe Biden - I plan on being glued to the TV for that one.

Oh well, must read more...must read more...must read more!!! I may be brain damaged by Nov. 4th at this rate.

Have a good one all!!! TTFN

Ruh-roh...the first mistake of Palin....

While making a speech in front of the masses in Colorado Springs over this past weekend, it appears Ms. Palin has made the first mistake - thanks super high paid speechwriters!

She handily refers to the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac situation as "gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers." Yoohoo - Palin, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac are not taxpayer funded - but operated as private companies! The best part, there is McCain right beside her nodding in agreement.

The possibility exists that a taxpayer bailout may be required during the reorganization, but I have not heard that mentioned yet.

So, here it is - in your face - a demonstration of Sarah Palin's complete lack of understanding of economic matters that will undoubtedly be faced in the next few years.

I have a hard time with her reference to "we, the middle class." She is making $130,000/yr and her husband, at last report was making $40K+/yr. Let's see, are we bloggers (as a rule) in that income bracket??? I used to think I was middle class - but have now been downgraded to POVERTY level. Actually, I have been at that level for quite some time!

I will now be waiting for her speechwriters to let her speak out on foreign affairs. They write eloquently - yet not quite factually. She is definitely not versed enough to know that facts may be distorted or incorrect, and like her party - trust that if I say it often and loud enough - IT WILL BE TRUE!!!

Folks, this is the year we need to "Get the Vote Out!" I have encouraged as many as possible and will continue for the next many days. More to come, I'm sure! TTFN

THIS WAS ME YESTERDAY - FOOTBALL SEASON - STEELERS WON!!!!! Doesn;t take much to make me happy!

A laugh for the weekend!!

I have squirrels around the house and have never seen one run then lay down like this. It is hilarious to watch and listen to the announcers. I honestly think the SQUIRREL WON!!!!

This is so sad...not far from where theson is located!

I am not sure of the exact location of this tragedy, but in the pictures I took and some videos when I was there in May, there were so many of these "shanty towns" around Cairo. And to me, it looked like they were situated DOWN below these quarries. I have no idea if they will be able to move these 70 ton slabs to rescue the approximately 500 people trapped, or not. I should hope they have the ingenuity and equipment to make it work. All this will have to be undertaken in 100 degree plus weather. Also, to happen during their Ramadan holiday, makes this extremely sad. Everyone wish the best for these people.

Correcton...to post below "fingers bleeding"

It was brought to my attention, through articles I missed, that the special needs program for the State of Alaska was NOT cut by 62%. When scouring through the FY budgets for 2005-2006 and 2007, it is not clear at first blush, but the line item for Alaska Challenge Academy has been moved to another source in the budget, which gives the impression of a large slash in budget. I apologize for that error. I should hope that those more intelligent than I - will correct the mistake.

I try to research thoroughly, but I am human and if you catch me on something, thanks for calling me on it.

This fact alone, does not change my stance - so as the "games begin" we will see what transpires.

Thanks again.

Former POW says McCain is

Take it for what it is worth!

THIS IS A MUST SEE!!! FUNNY BUT TRUE!!

My fingers are bleeding from internet research!

First of all, I am not a Sarah Palin fan...there was just something in her initial appearance in Dayton that turned me off. In the days since, I have been non-stop researching various facts on her and her former political positions. So here are some facts I have gleaned:

Palin was elected as a councilperson in '92 and '95, a position which is considered the legislative body of the local government. All the ordinances and codes are crafted and voted upon by the council representatives. (Pay approx. $65K+/yr.) She was elected in '96 and re-elected in '99 as Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (Pay $75K/yr), a position with the power and duties as follows:
Chapter 2.16.020 - The mayor is the chief administrator of the city, has the same powers and duties as those of a manager (which she hired in '96) under AS 29.20.005 and shall,

1) Preside @ council meetings. The mayor may take part in the discussion of matters before the council, but may not vote, except in the case of a tie;
2) Act as ceremonial head of the city;
3) Sign documents on behalf of the city;
4) Appoint, suspend or remove city employees and administrative officials, except as provided otherwise in AS Title 29 and the Wasilla Municipal Code;
5) Supervise the enforcement of city law and carry out the directives of city council;
6) Prepare & submit annual budget and capital improvement program for consideration by the council, and execute the budget & capital program as adopted;
7) Make monthly financial reports and other reports on city finances and operations as required by council;
8) Exercise legal custody over all real and personal property of the city;
9) Perform other duties required by law or by the council; and
10) Serve as personnel officer, unless the council authorizes the mayor to appoint a personnel officer.

Now, reality kicks in - in cities across the nation of comparable size, the mayor salaries are well below $10,000/yr. Job duties and requirements are comparable also. As an aside, I truly believe we should ALL head to Alaska where everyone appears to reap the benefits of BIG OIL!!! For example: in 2008, each and every resident received a check for $2000 as a dividend (another oil benefit) and Palin issued another "resource payment" of $1200 per individual. That is $3200 per!! Anyone packing their bags yet?? That means the Palin family received a whopping $22,400 for doing NOTHING!! I am checking Orbitz now.

She took a town of 7000 people that was debt free in 1996 and ran it over $18 million into debt. There are implications that she may have over-stepped her duties in this area which hints of misfeasance by either intimidating or misleading her council.

I am still working on some fact-finding regarding the status of $700K worth of office furniture in 2003 yet in '96 there was approximately $300K of office furniture. C'mon, give me a break. I have seen pictures of their Town Hall and as James Carville stated, "it looks like a bait shop from New Orleans."

I am sooooo tired of hearing that she has superior qualities to Obama when it comes to executive matters. Way overblown.

Of course she gave a rousing speech last night, if I had professionals writing for me, I guarantee the Republicans would be knocking down my door to run also. BTW, she made the comment that she "would be an advocate for mother's of special needs children" if making it to Washington, yet as Governor, she cut special needs programs by 62% - hmmmmm...go figure.

Too much to say at one time - but I love being able to vent. More later, no doubt.

"THE NICE PART ABOUT LIVING IN A SMALL TOWN - WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, SOMEONE ELSE DOES!" (Maxine, I think)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THEGRANDSON!!!

Since thedaughter is working an early shift (7-3:30), thegrandson crashed with me last night and I have the duty of getting him to the school bus on time. I was up earlier than the little stinker, and planned on surprising him with the loud rendition of Happy Birthday...but he surprised me! Without a sound, he crept up behind me (I didn't hear him rustle), and said "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!" To which I replied, "Nope, I changed my mind, it is another day!" Of course he is not having any parts of that idea.

He is off to school now, and his class is having their first field trip, to the Belmont county Fair - whoopee!! He is excited and that is what counts. We are having a few people over tonite for cake and ice cream, but the plan is for Saturday, he and his mother are going to the movie of his choice and then to his favorite restaurant - West Texas Roadhouse, which he calls "the peanut place." He doesn't eat much, but has fun opening peanuts, throwing peanuts (thanks Uncle Zac) and then throwing them on the floor. We will open more presents on Saturday.

His mother called him from work before we left for the bus - so he is on cloud nine for the day! He has the subtle ability to inform people that "don't you have something for me since my birthday is coming?" I kicked that one in the butt real fast. Unlike his mother who had a daily countdown to remind people of her birth date! And me....I could care less, my birthday is just another day! I have more fun with others birthdays.

I'm sure I will have something to say in a little while (political), after watching, printing off and analyzing the Palin speech last night. I was really pissed off - but that is what professional speechwriters are for!

Penn Jillette - my hero!!

Penn Jillette, the big buffoonish comedian, actor, magician but not a good dancer - has said it so succinctly.

Tha-tha-tha-that's all folks!!!!

I know I promised, and I tried - but I just can't...

stay away from Political issues. This damn presidential race has me fired up. My low tolerance for stupidity and inane comments is getting the better of me. Just a few things come to mind today:

1. This is new journalistic territory. When Geraldine Ferraro ran as Mondale's VP nominee - her children were raised and she had held a highly respectable political position for quite some time, prior to that nomination. Yes, some of her decisions (political) were questioned, as they should be, but there were no in-depth family type investigations. I do believe the daughter should be off limits (although I think she is being forced into a marriage at too young of an age).

2. It also appears that there is the "double standard" relating to her (Palin) as a parent. I cannot remember any male being questioned as to "how and who will take care of the children." Sen. Rick Santorem has 7 children and I honestly don't believe that question came into play. I do resent this!

3. As to Fred Thompsons' speech last night - I have to admit I love him as an actor, despise him as a politician - he referred to Gov. Sarah Palin as being so popular because she is the executive officer of the largest state in the union. OK - let's get real - it is geographically the largest state, but ranks 48th (see post below) in population. She went after more "pork" than some predecessors and is admittedly in love with the "earmarks" - face it, I would love to live in Alaska and get a royalty check annually because they "cater to/with the big oil companies!!!!!"

4. Ben Stein was interviewed today and he is quite vocal about the stupidity of nominating Palin. This statement just about floored me, because having listened to Stein lately - he would agree with just about anything the Republican party proposed. I was impressed. Then he had to top it off with "I do believe in Intelligent Design too!" Argh!!!!!!

5. OK McCain - I know you were a POW for 5 1/2 years, and yes you were tortured, we empathized with you then and for quite a few years after...but much like a death in the family...life goes on. Thirty five years later, it is the proverbial dead horse.

The McCain team has been locked in a hotel room with Sarah Palin, most of today, working on her speech which may (or may not) over-exemplify her qualifications, so I will be watching this one for sure. Levi Johnson, the "fiance'" of Bristol Palin will be in attendance also.

As for the next 2 months, as Bette Davis once said, "fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride!" I know the Keating scandal will be coming up along with Cynthia McCains drug problems and there will probably be comparable mud thrown Obama's way.

Everyone will have to trudge through the mire and use all the brains and logic you have - so that on November 4th, the right person gets elected.

****Just an observation: I have never seen so many gum chewing people in one place in my life, as the RNC. Has anyone else noticed that the arena is not full to capacity like the DNC and the people SIT a lot at the RNC!!! Whew I really DO need a life.

I can't help it...have to speak my mind...

Population Alaska: 683,478 (rank 48th)
Population Ohio: 11,466,917 (rank 7th)

I think our Governor has more credence (with representation).

Thedaughter gets really upset with me, because I constantly have the news channel on, even while running around the house cleaning or whatever. And - knowing how opinionated I am, I think she is wanting me to get on Xanax or something, because I am getting so upset over some of these interviews relating to Sarah Palin, presumptive Republican VP nominee.

Yesterday, primary coverage was on Hurricane Gustav, with break-ins for the truncated version of the opening of the Republican convention. But ALL, and I repeat ALL the republicans were extolling how Palin is far more qualified for the VP position than Obama/Biden. Excuse me...here goes my blood pressure again...I BEG TO DIFFER!!!! Let's see if I can simplify this:

1. Palin has more "executive" experience.
I don't think so...as council person and mayor of a very small town, the "executive" experience is so highly limited. To be honest, a stay-at-home mom, who manages a household has more responsibilities. I know what I am talking about, as I have had my foot in local politics for many years. I was president of the Board of Trustees which oversaw the local utilities and account collections for over 6 years. OH WAIT...THAT MEANS I COULD BE VP!!!

2. She is Commander-in-Chief of the Alaska National Guard.
Excuse me, the federal National Guard Bureau established policy and guidelines for the operations of each of the states' National Guard units. Note..the governor commands the Alaska National Guard while it is NOT in active federal service. Her supporters have stated that she personally, sent her Guard into Iraq. That did not happen. I have not found anything cited to state that she has had to "call out" the Guard for any state emergencies since she has been Governor.

3. Women are so excited to have her on the ballot - she will pick up some of the lost female voters.
I believe I have addressed this one...women (most free thinking ones) are insulted to be pigeon holed into this area. I even heard the comment last night from Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, (who never blinks) that women are flocking to Sarah Palin as a BETTER choice than Hillary, because she truly represents ALL women. Wait a minute, I have to go flog myself here...this Congresswoman needs to get out into the real world and speak with REAL women. I loved her comment earlier this month to Nancy Pelosi regarding environmental issues: "We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet - we didn't need Nancy Pelosi to do that!" Argh!!!!

Being described as a "uniter & reformer" I beg to ask the question...of what? If she is going to unite the Republican party, more power to her. As to reform...I see her setting women back a hundred years. I do not want my "choice" taken away and dictated by a certain party or a group of men. I prefer the word EQUALITY. I want to see equal pay for women and as it goes - equal rights across the board.

I find it ludicrous that the Republican party feels they have cornered the market on "traditional family values" and "morality". I feel these issues should be blanketed rather than party affiliated. It is probably the word "traditional" that throws me for a loop - whose tradition are we speaking of? Who do we allow to dictate the ground rules...and so what, if someone veers away from the norm as long as no one is being hurt - we need to stay out of setting those guidelines for all.

Had these politicians NOT started campaigning over two years ago - we could have more productive conversations and interviews...but the American public is TIRED of it all. This is not a good thing I believe. People have a tendency to make rash decisions when they are fed up and just want the whole process to be over. So, I will try to limit my opinions (I will definitely need drugs) and not upset anyone in the future. At least until the next stupid statement is made.

I think I am getting a headache now...have to do up some dishes and finish some laundry. Oooh, I lucked out and got an appointment to get the dog scalped for tomorrow. I had her clipped in April and it is just now growing back in - and it is all the undergrowth first and I have HAIR everyhwhere. Since she is huge and thinks she is a poodle, she spends very little time outside - I am going to keep her clipped thru the winter. I will see how it works out!

Have a good day - later guys!! TTFN.

This is the Congresswoman who NEVER blinks!

If your kids don't listen...

I am not going to make a big issue on the fact that Bristol Palin, 17 year old daughter of VP nominee Sara Palin - is 5 months pregnant. I can relate to being pregnant at such a young age (I was 18 with my first and unwed) - but my main gripe is that Sarah Palin does not believe in birth control or abortions...and has been preaching ABSTINENCE for quite some time.

Someone missed that class. Can we envision rebellion on the home front?

I wish the young lady all the luck in the world and would hope that a marriage at that young age, while in high school (does not have the odds in her favor) - that the relationship works out positively for all involved.

Enough said!

What more can I say???

Leave it to Cindy McCain, the self professed former drug addict (also accused of stealing drugs from place of employment years ago)...this is all I need to know to switch my vote for McCain/Palin. DUH!?!?!?!

Visiting The Huffington Post, there were quite a few links to further descriptions and viewpoints relating to Sarah Palin. No matter what...just being a mother does not make her credentials superior to Obama. I just don't get it (like McCain), my fingers are sore from scouring ALL sides of this matter and when I hear the Republicans with all their "glowing" remarks...I want to down a bottle of pills!!!!

Oh well, not done yet, more research to do - what else does one do on Labor Day? Picnic? My neighbor is coming down later for a small cookout - hope the neighbors don't ask us to "keep it down!"

Later all...and Happy Ramadan (is that appropriate?) to theson in Egypt!

I'm sure everyone has seen this...

At 3 am this morning I was watching an interview Palin had with CNBC - all OIL based. This woman is scary - I think she should have left her small (7,000 residents) town more often - to just check out the "real world." She is quite eloquent in speaking about boosting the oil output, more drilling - and essentially anything advantageous to the State of Alaska. But I have sincere doubts that in a debate, she can handle the BIG issues. If one listens to the pundits, all I'm hearing is that Joe Biden will have to essentially handle her with kid gloves, because he wouldn't want to look like a bully. Crap on that. I figure you want to play with the big kids, you better be able to take it. Plain and simple. No tears, and "why are you picking on me" stuff.

She wants creationism taught in schools, Roe vs. Wade abolished...the list is endless.

I want to say Karl Rove thought this up, but truly even Rove can't be this stupid. Since I don't know this woman personally, as I don't know any candidate personally, my criticisms are based on data available - and trust me, I have been to every site imaginable to find something redeeming to the betterment of our country. NOTHING.

As a woman, I am highly insulted, that the McCain team would presume that disenfranchised Hillary supporters, would just arbitrarily vote McCain/Palin, because he picked the WOMAN!!! In other words, we who supported Hillary are brain dead, and were only supporting Hillary because of her femininity?!?!!? We do have substance and brain matter and I am sure as a whole, we all are rather well informed on the issues and stances....but oh no, we now have a former beauty queen contestant, former council person and mayor of VERY small community and a Governor for only 18 months. Let me think about this.....NOT happening.

Again, some pundits are brushing this off as...we are voting for a President and that is what we need to do. Well, excuse me...McCain is a senior senior citizen with four prior cases of cancer...one would have to look at the long term. As Bill Maher said last night, "the call that Palin got at 3 am, was for a moose getting in someone's garbage!" Funny, but true. McCain had so many female Republicans to choose from with a vast amount of experience, to go this route is unfathomable.

The next 60 some days should prove to be quite interesting. I think I will enjoy it immensely. Everyone is entitled to their opinion - and this is mine...so be it!

And to all my friends, have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend. TTFN!

Repubs definitely DROPPED the ball on this one....

McCain has picked Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential nominee, and I believe he has done it for all the WRONG reasons.

Question: Does this party think that by naming a WOMAN makes up for Obama NOT naming Hillary as his VP?? I most certainly do not think so. Hillary's credentials and experience far outweigh ANY of Palin. Palin held council positions (local level) before being elected Gov. of Alaska in Dec. 2006. Not even 2 years in state office - and an investigation was begun this month as to "abuse of power" into firings of some personnel. As far as any qualifications on a federal level - NONE!

Question: Can McCain continue to pronounce Obama's "lack of experience" and his "youth" to his followers? Again, the answer is NO. Obama has been in the political arena for over two decades in one form or another. As for youth - can't argue that one now - Palin is 44 and Obama 47. Just a note, McCain turns 72 today!

I have made a few phone calls to my very good Repub friends - and I don't hear happiness in their voices. A lot of head scratching and WTF going on. I guess we will chalk this up to McCain's Senior Moment.

The most interesting thing to see will be the VP debate. Biden against the upstart. I will leave the more in depth commentary to the Dipassionate Liberal.

I stopped at Democrat Headquarters to pick up signs and stuff, but they weren't open yet, so will get back there tomorrow. YES, there will be OBAMA/BIDEN signs all over my property, cars, even my body if I have to. I think I will start knitting Obama coats for the cat and dog too.

I love ya all, no matter party affiliation - I just happen to be outspoken at times.

***BTW - her husband works for BP when not on his commercial fishing boat.

A scary night for Blogger friend....

EvilTwinsWife, a blogger friend had to have had a rough night after witnessing this explosion. Shelters were set up for locals, but I understand they may not have been needed once the situation was assessed. One life was lost and another person was seriously burned and taken to a Pittsburgh, PA hospital. (I imagine West Penn - they have one of the very best burn units around.) All in all, I'm sure it could have been worse, but I am so glad that ETW and family are fine. ** Bless ETW heart...she managed to get some pictures for posterity also!

Now, everyone please stay well...I don't want to worry about anyone else today!

I should NEVER....

assume that a situation, thought to be under control - is anywhere near control!! Per my blog about the bank screwing up the checking account...and as of Monday (25th) I assumed that I had finally talked to the right person and all was well. HELL NO!!! I was told they were expediting a new debit card, which I would receive today - and someone had to be home to sign for it. No problem, UPS dropped it off and didn't require a signature - grrr... in order to activate the card a trip to the ATM is required. I ran to the ATM, with the intention of heading straight to the hospital to visit my grandson, after the deed was done. Insert card, punch in PIN, get nominal amount of funds, check balance...$35 WTF!!!!!

I rushed back home, checked account online and this Norwegian Airlines debited $614. and change on the 25th. My fingers couldn't dial numbers fast enough. Moron #1, says, "Mam, shouldn't be a problem, I will connect you with someone who can correct this problem." Now, Moron #2 is the one I have the problem with...after explaining the situation I have been dealing with since Saturday, and naming all those I have spoken with (including times and day), this idiot says, "you will have to submit a DISPUTE form, and once we process it - the funds will be replaced within 24-48 hours. Again, I explain that I have bills coming out of this account and that I was told I could write checks since the debit had "dropped off" the account. Now the argument begins...well 'Mam we didn't stop this charge, as we notated an amount of $598. How hard is it to understand that in all conversations, I reiterated the fact that I did not know of this Norwegian Airlines, nor have I ever done any business with them? Lame, lame, lame excuses.

I said to e-mail me the form and I would FAX it back immediately and I would expect my $$ back in 24-48 hours..."Oh no 'mam, that is 24-48 hours if we start the process today, I can't guarantee that it will be processed today!" DAMMIT - SEND ME THE FORM!

I just happened to have the phone number still laying around for a lady who is the "head honcho" and called when I wasn't here Monday afternoon, I assume to see if her employees had been helpful. I decided to speak with her and see what happens. OMG, the nicest lady in the universe. I gave her a detailed account of what had transpired, she understood, and said "I want you to do exactly as I say. Write (particular info) in a statement form, sign and date it and fax it to me personally. As soon as I receive the fax, which is here by my desk, I will immediately replace the funds in your account." Could this person be true? Could she wield that much clout with such a large bank? Oh well, what did I have to lose? I did as requested....and one hour later she has all the funds replaced in the account.

I am hoping that this is the end of this matter, but I thought the same thing two days ago. Kudos to my new best friend at the bank, I may put her on my Christmas card list now! This entire situation has had me a nervous wreck, I find it harder to deal with all these crises this late in life.

***TheAustin (grandson) is doing much better, apparently he has an intestinal problem that should be handled well with medication. He is spending another night in the hospital till his fever stabilizes.

Waiting and waiting is a pain...

My 13 year old grandson was rushed to the hospital from school yesterday, and as of this moment, still no concrete answers. Shortly after midnight they were going to perform a spinal tap - but at this moment they are throwing around - meningitis and encephalitis. I am going over to the hospital after while, but thedaughter2 is keeping in touch with me and letting me know the latest updates. As soon as my "delivery" comes, my butt is outta here. Be back later.

**Update 10:25 am...results from spinal tap was good - clear and no infection. His white count is still elevated, so the search begins for source of infection. Now they are centering on the intestines. More later.

Woohoo Democratic Convention begins...

Since I definitely need a life (and cannot foresee one in the near future) I guess I will be watching the Convention which begins this afternoon. I remember HATING the entire process when I was younger - when TV's were only B&W, and three channels - we had no option but to watch! Coming from a very long line of WV staunch Republicans...I broke the chain many moons ago. Short of driving a stake through my father's heart, I can't think of anything else that upset him as much when I told him I was switching to Democrat. Understand, he was the grandson of the 6th Governor of WV, his uncles and great uncles were all Judges and Supreme court justices - and how dare I change the balance of nature??? Dammit - it was the 60's - we wanted to change EVERYTHING!!! It was not the end of the world and we made up and all was well with the world...as long as we no longer discussed politics.

In 3rd grade, my twin sister and I wanted to "go away" to boarding school, since our brother was allowed the luxury...and our parents said OK, not sending us to another state, but just in town to a girl's Catholic boarding school. (We were not Catholic.) I must say, it was an interesting teaching experience, albeit different from public schools, and I think I found a fondness for politics at that stage. One of the nuns was a cousin to John F. Kennedy, and he made an all day campaign stop in Parkersburg, meeting with his cousin for a couple of hours. Of course, she had to show off her beautiful charges (that would include me) to Kennedy. That was a memory I will hopefully never forget. Thinking back, and being such a young person, the thing that impressed me the most was how tall Kennedy was, and I loved his accent. I can vividly remember all the women imitating Jackie Kennedy with their 2 pc. suits and pillbox hats - so much for originality. Oh the fun times of youth.

But now back to reality. Obama picked Joe Biden as his running mate Saturday, and as I have stated, I would have preferred Hillary, but I can live with Biden. What amazes me the most is the "SPIN" which started immediately from the McCain camp. The hypocritic statements begin. Mistakes or mis-statments will now be made aplenty and apologies abundant. Dammit - let's get to Election Day and hopefully let change begin.

To follow McCain will only be four more years of Bush and honestly, I believe the majority of people are fed up! And if I hear "because he was a POW" one more time, I may go ballistic. I am not without sympathy, but being a POW in and of itself carries no credentials to run a country. He survived, fooled around on his wife, married a rich broad and has so many houses he can't count them...OK, let's move on.

Enough of that for now. I called the bank to reaffirm what I was told Saturday and got a different girl, who told me a completely different story - so I had to be transferred to her supervisor. Two out of three have the same details, so I am going to consider the ridiculous amount trying to be debited from my account - as closed. Give someone a phone headset, set them in a cubicle and they can tell you anything they desire, right, wrong or otherwise. Far be it from me to keep making calls till I get the right answer or one I can live with.

I need to find something to do today, I have cleaned, laundry is caught up, moved furniture (to the point of pain), and today is cooler, maybe something on the deck...we will see.!!

Have a great day and TTFN. Stay well.

***I finally was able to see theson and chat on Skype. I feel much better.

I HATE THIEVES!!! DAMNIT!!

At the end of my last blog, I mentioned the problem with my checking account. After checking the balance online again today, I saw that the $598 charge to Norwegian tickets was no longer on there and balance was in OK shape. I sent thedaughter to get something at the store, and my debit was DECLINED again. Now I'm pissed and it is a Saturday, but I try the 800 number for the bank, and after jumping through all the "push this number and that number" hoops, I got a real live American person to speak with. This is a good sign. It only got better. YES, MY ACCOUNT WAS HACKED!!! The bank said this $598 charge came in on the 20th and they tried to call me (NO THEY DIDN'T), but I would be receiving a letter of dispute against the charge, which was mailed yesterday. I definitely told her that it was a fraudulent charge - but since my son and I are both on the account, we each assumed the other had made this charge - TILL TODAY. We spoke, via e-mail, and found out the truth. thus the reason for the "decline" on my card. How fukking embarrassing - when you know the problem, and those who have to tell you the card is no good.

Oh well, they are expediting me a new debit card, and I have to change all my online accounts to reflect the change, it's all worth the effort. But in this day and age of not carrying cash, it causes me problems - my checks are good - now let me remember - how do I write a check???

All just another headache I didn't need at the moment - but it can be rectified (hopefully).

I'm Sure Theson & thedaughter will enjoy...

Now, as a rule, I don't drink. I did my fair share in my younger days, so I am not a prude. Having been married to a lousy drunk though, I changed my view on drinkers. By choice, I prefer not to be around a bunch when the "obnoxious" starts. Theson likes his beer as does thedaughter - and I am constantly warning against that nasty alcoholic gene that can be inherited. Like I have any luck.

But I thought this was an original and funny bar statement. Am I a hypocrite? Oh well - so be it!

OK - so Obama didn't pick my girl Hillary as a running mate...but I am not so upset with Joe Biden. He would be super as far as foreign matters go and my feeling is he is a fair and just person, having heard him speak many times. So we will see what happens now!

Just jotting this while taking a break from cleaning. **My checking account has been screwed with - as there was a $598 debit from Norwegian something or other. And today - the charge has disappeared - WTF! Will check on it Monday. I HATE PROBLEMS.

I'm WORN OUT!!! These Olympic games are....

taking their toll on this old body. I couldn't sleep after watching the men's Volleyball for the gold. Laying on my bed, it is like I am PLAYING the damn game. My legs are moving, I'm actually trying to help the guys make the shots - I really need a life. Thedaughter actually thinks I'm weird, imagine that.

Then the "breaking news" came after the win - that the IOC is finally going to investigate the age question in regards to the Chinese gymnasts. I have been reading blogs and following links since the games began, and have seen where documents were accessed that reflect their actual ages (3 of them) as 13 and 14. I am not shocked that China would try these underhanded tactics - I was just furious that the IOC was turning a blind eye to the matter.

My heart breaks for the young girls who may be stripped of their medals, but unfortunately the adults set them up to be hurt. The judging was atrocious also, but one could assume there may have been some interference there also.

I guess I will try to go to bed again - sleep is not my friend. It is something I have to work very hard for. Just thought I would add this little tidbit.

later guys!

Did I piss someone off??? Go figure!!

I had TWO appointments today - one at 2:30 pm and a doctor's appointment at 3:45 (which I have been waiting on for over a month) - and BOTH cancelled on me. I have rescheduled them, but I made arrangements for thedaughter to be home for thegrandson after school (she had to request day off) and now this!

When I went to the ER - I was told to schedule a follow up with my family physician - OK, from first of June I managed to get a follow up appointment for today - now I have to wait till Sept. 4th - WTF!!! My time is important to - I have to make allowances and arrangements the same as everyone else. Can you tell I'm pissed.

If something comes up and I get a cancellation call for the 9-4-08 appointment - fukk them, I'm cutting my arm off and they will really feel bad then!!! I can be so mature too!

Oh well, I don't need to put the make-up on and get dressed now - so I am going to just schlepp around as is!! I'm not expecting anyone important so to hell with it! Maybe a nap will improve my attitude - then again, maybe not.

I KNEW IT ALL ALONG....gymnasts were underage!!

Now I will show my ignorance...is that a "peekachu" at the end of the line? (Please excuse the spelling). No matter what, having read all the articles, some going back to January of this year, and seeing the research done on these very young girls...2 are at least 13 years old. Now will the IOC check further and regain the medals back...or let the story ride??? Were they excellent athletes??? No doubt, but there is great difference in body structure (pre-pubescent), and the fact that there is NO fear of bodily harm at that younger age. Not to get down on the Chinese (but I am), after watching the Ladies Beach Volleyball final last night, the Chinese girls, took a "medical" time out, which was clearly a ploy (which failed), and NBC documented past incidents of this abuse during the break. Being an Olympics devotee, I must say that the Chinese divers (springboard or platform) are excellent - the best. No matter what, all their dives are exceptional. Enough comments on that for now though.

I spent all day Monday and most of yesterday in bed with the "Summer Cold From Hell!" Headache (a killer), snotty head, and the...cough. Now coughing isn't bad basically, but since I have re-injured my back (last October) and my breastbone is still in separate pieces (never mended)...when I cough, I manage to hurt every part of my lovely body. Thegrandson has been a gem...asking if I need anything and gladly getting it if I do. Considering I have to babysit at the same time...I think the roles were reversed.

Today was his first day back to school and I didn't even wake up in time to wish him good luck and a hug send off.

I have a 3:45pm doctors appointment today, and have to make my list of all the things I wish fixed - and I am ready with the "I don't think so" response when he suggests a battery of tests. Of course I may rethink that one if he volunteers to pay all costs involved...highly unlikely!!!

The step-sons and families are all in the Ft. Myers area of Florida, and haven't heard a word from them, whether they have been affected by the flooding rains from Hurricane Fay, or not. Of course, I rarely hear from them...period! But since my job is to worry...I will keep doing just that.

I got an e-mail from a fellow classmate (from oh so many years ago) and a friend is on his way to a Pittsburgh, PA hospital for a double lung transplant...I hope all goes well, as he has been suffering for many years with a chronic condition.

I am off to practice for the 2012 games now....right!?!?!? Everyone stay well and TTFN.

Back to school sleeping habits...NOT!!

School begins earlier and earlier every year it seems. With the usual "make-up" days for snow school cancellations, school is out for the summer the first week of June and now the kids start back August 21st. "Back in the day", school NEVER started before Labor Day. I truly believe that year round school is inevitable - at this rate. One thought locally, is that since football games (for High School) are being played early, that a requirement of the State governing agency requires schools to be in session.....I say BS! Let the kids enjoy the last days of summer!!

Be that as it may, I have been trying to get thegrandson back on an early bedtime, in preparation for getting up early for the bus. So far, IT IS NOT WORKING!!! The little chap is like his mother, a night person. I can get him bathed, teeth brushed, all the little nuances of bedtime preparation - and the little stinker can find every excuse in the book of "why NOT to go to sleep!" I put him to sleep in my bed, and when his mother gets home from work, she carries him up to his bed (I am physically not able to carry the load upstairs!)

Miracle of miracles, last night was a GREAT night. No arguments, the TV went off, no claims of being afraid of the dark...and he has this inherent knack of taking over the entire bed. These pics are actually tame - if he ends up sleeping with me - he may end up literally on top of me, or upside down in the bed...such an erratic sleeper!

Thegrandson is very "long", he is ALL legs, like his grandfather and sperm pop! Thank God he is not short and stout like the rest of us!! Hee-hee!

Oh well, that's my input for the moment. I'm proud of myself, I also figured out how to set up my cell for Twitter. I may be old...but still some of my brain is working! Later guys! TTFN

Just a DUMB aside...

I recently blogged about our water being shut off for line relocations. When the lines are completely shut down, a 48 hour boil order is mandated. When talking to one of my police friends, he told me of the following call - after boil order was issued.

Police: "Police Department!"
Lady caller: "I have a problem with this water boil order!"
Police: "What is that 'mam?"
Lady caller: "I can't boil my water for 48 hours - it keeps evaporating!!!!!"
Police: "!@#$%^&*()" DUH!

I have a hard time trying to understand how DUMB people can actually be. At leasdt it is good for a laugh. And this is definitely a true story.

...just chilling!

I have had a headache from hell all day and felt like garbage...therefore a day of zip accomplishments. Thedaughter had a day off and cooked on the grill and we have just been sitting out here enjoying the cool temps for awhile. Maybe a fire in the pit will top of this blah day.

The dawg is enjoying the remnants of the steak bones, thegrandson is playing with the neighbor girl - although she is only 3 - he likes her more because she has a playset! When she starts throwing rocks at him - he will come home. Little chiken shit.

We feel like 'KEEPERS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD" at the moment. One person went to NYC on a 2 day bus trip, so I had to get her newpaper and mail, neighbor across the street has taken off to parts unknown on a vacation, and the family on the corner has taken off also. The peace and quiet is definitely noticeable. I think I can get used to this.

Has anyone watched the Olympics and Bushies in attendance? I'm sure, we as taxpayers, have paid for the entire Bush clan to enjooy their China trip. Good old Dubya at a photo op with the beach volleyball babes - what a goof! And he is trying to wheedle his way into getting us into another war I believe...with Russia!?!?! Let's see how many fake letters and WMD's threaten us this time. Just thinking about the remaining 5+ months he has left in office - chills me to the bone. He has no clue about the economy and how we "po folk" are being affected. I have been avoiding going to the grocery store - and our cupboards are almost bare - but food prices have shot through the roof. Like I'm telling everybody something they don't already know. Just griping I guess.

Today has been an uneventful day as far as news goes...takes the fun out of my CNN watching. Now I just have to wait till 8 pm for Olympics to begin again and I will be just fine.

Going to run for now and check out the schedule for games tonight. Take care - maybe a better blog tomorrow. TTFN

wants to be a Drill Sergeant!!!! Arghhhh!

Can you tell thegrandson wants to be a MEAN drill sergeant???

Needless to say, he doesn't care about the possible wrist fracture this poor soldier is incurring! I have always said, we do not need to buy all the latest toys on the market, kids will make do with whatever is available at the moment. Thegrandson used little cat figurines that I had - somewhere (not even sure) - they were my twin sisters, and then added a few other small toys to apparently make this soldier's workout more grueling. What a trip to watch this kid play...he has an unbelievable imagination and sense of creativity - and this is just great.

The weather today is supposed to barely hit 70 degrees - how cool is that. I love it when the AC does not have to run and I can open the windows for FRESH AIR!! Alas, the poor kid may find it to chilly to even jump in the Olympic sized pool also - too bad, so sad!

I'm still watching the Olympics (USA vs China in basketball at the moment), and was elated to see Dara Torres win the 400 relays for the silver medal last night. She is the 41 year old swimmer and now holds the record for the "oldest" medal winner in swimming. Just a note: there is a 68 year old China man competing in the Equestrian field. Amazing!

Enjoy the day and the sunshine...TTFN.

FEAR is the only way to desccribe...

FEAR is the only way I can describe the events of just an hour ago. I was returning home from running a couple of errands, and in order to get to my house, we turn off the main road, and bear to the left at a fork, and straight up the road to my home. The normal course of driving means we have to go relatively slow, as the road is narrow (although 2 cars can pass), and it is a residential area. As I made this left onto our street, a young boy came flying (running) off the hill from behind some bushes, I hit the brakes - putting my car sideways, thinking I had hit this young lad. In my mind all I could see was the kid (all in red - OSU) flying behind my car. Admittedly I was frozen - then the boy appeared at my passenger window, with eyes as big as saucers, saying "I'm all right!" WTF - I tried NOT to yell at him, but made him verify to me that he wasn't hit, no injuries, and followed that up with getting his name and where he lived - and told him to "get the hell home!"

It took me a couple of minutes to compose myself, and make it the entire block to get home. I couldn't even get out of the car...had to honk for thedaughter to come out. By now, I want to cry, scream - or beat the little shit up - for being stupid. Thedaughter was furious at this kid, for the condition I was now in. She got her car keys and proceeded to find the kid and make sure the parents knew how irresponsible he was. It turns out that he is the son of one of theson's classmates (A. Vinka), and thedaughter informed her of what had transpired. The mother, in an air-headed way said, "he isn't even supposed to be on your street!" No mention of grounding or he acted poorly, blah blah blah!

Thedaughter called the local P.D., and stated the situation, just to have it logged, so there can be no repercussions from this family...they are sending a policeman to get a statement to that effect also! It's a shame that you have to cover your ass so well, but we know how people like to litigate everything! Now all I have to do is get rid of this screaming headache and get rid of my rubber legs.

I cannot describe what actually went through my head, but I honestly believed I had hit this boy...and that I could never live with! Thank heavens this had a good outcome, and my heart appears to have survived the shock. I certainly hope the day improves.

Take care and TTFN.

Ahhh...our Olympic sized pool!

Thegrandson is quite the little swimmer, yet we have no public pools nearby and this is the best we can do for him. My backyard is quite "lumpy", for lack of a better word, and we have no luck with the water inflating pools - because no spot is large and level enough - so we are stuck with this monster of a pool!! (hear my sarcasm?)

I had a video and have been trying to get it on here for two days...and no luck. I guess it is too large or something. I will try to add as an attachment to theson - since thegrandson wants him to see his abilities in the water.

I have calmed down after yesterday's "near miss", but can't get certain images out of my mind.

With school starting in two weeks, we are trying to get thegrandson back on an "early bedtime" - which hasn't worked so far. The little booger does not like to go to bed at all. As soon as school starts - the little stinker has a birthday on Sept. 4th - he will be 8 years old (and still wears size 3-4T shorts). My poor little Ethiopian grandchild. His appetite has picked up, but crap he still gains very little weight. BUT...he has grown in height over 1 1/4" in a month!!!! He is definitely going to be a tall one.

More later, watching the Olympics (for the next 17 days), again pissing everyone off. Too bad, I love to watch all the various competitions and the Opening Ceremonies last night were awesome. The bad news is waking up this morning and hearing that an American was killed by a crazy Chinese person last night, and the wife of victim is in serious condition in the hospital. Truly, we are never really safe anywhere.

R.I.P BERNIE MAC! So sad to hear of this young (50) man's passing - he was hilarious.

I may be STUPID after all...

After much worrying about this damn Gas company and the HUGE increase in the budget amount - I went to bed a mean, mad and frustrated individual. After showering this morning and thinking of nothing else - the light went on! 1) I CHOOSE to be on the budget 2) I can't afford more than $60/month towards the damn thing 3) Columbia Gas is NOT working with me on this at all. Now tell me if this solution is valid:

1) I will continue to make the $60 payment I am allotting
2) Although this will be below "suggested" budget amount - I can't technically be delinquent if the "actual" gas usage is monetarily covered - therefore it would be litigious for them to knock my credit
3) Or just opt out of "budget" plan altogether and pay my own set amount, creating a surplus - and adjusting as necessary.

Now, in hindsight, I think I got all worked up over a situation that I can rectify myself. **kicking myself in the ass at the moment.

My biggest problem is and always has been worrying. I have 2 children I am very worried about at the moment, and communication is NOT happening. I don't want to interfere, just be a support mechanism and this is not happening. (OK - I know you guys are reading this - so call me!)

JUDGE ELIZABETH HALVERSON - LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

Now a change of subject. I am addicted to court news and pissing my family members off constantly because TruTV (formerly Court TV) is on constantly. There is a case being covered in Las Vegas, Nevada - about a female judge who was suspended for her abusive actions and ultimately banned from the courthouse. This woman is Elizabeth Halverson (you have to google her name to find more pictures and a description.) This woman is an ASS. She is morbidly obese (425 pounds - but probably closer to 500) and she tools around in her huge scooter wearing an oxygen cannula. She is credited with being extremely smart, but is one of the biggest buffoons I have ever seen. After I googled her and found out more about her - I like her even less. She apparently is a pig who thinks she can order anyone around BECAUSE SHE IS AN ELECTED JUDGE! She is and has been proven, to be getting even with those who climbed the legal ladder ahead of her, and I do believe she may have psychiatric issues due to her paranoia.

One would have to actually see her demeanor before this Nevada Judicial Tribunal to fully appreciate her arrogance - I made my mind up, and NO I don't like her and don't think she has any redeeming qualities whatsoever.

I'm meeting some friends for lunch at the City Building today, I haven't seen or talked to them in quite awhile and they called yesterday for a hook-up. I might as well, it's not as if I have a life.

Have a good one - I will be back later TTFN~
