I'M JUST NOW CALMING DOWN.......

...after all the bullshit I heard this morning. I had to wait until 8 am this morning to get hold of someone at thegrandson's school and at the school board office. The school was first, and I asked if they were going to air our president's message to the students today. Their reply was, "no, we don't have the technical ability to show it here." I let this woman know in no uncertain terms - that was the biggest pile of garbage I have ever heard. My next call was to the school board office, and the secretary who answered, gave me the reply "no, we aren't, would you like to speak to the superintendent?" Get a fucking grip woman...of course I do!!

He and I spoke for a good fifteen minutes, and I told him I was not happy with the decision, I was not happy with the LIES between the school and his office either. He informed me that his office was inundated with phone calls last week over this speech by our President. I asked him, why he had made the decision - BEFORE HE EVEN KNEW THE CONTENT OF THE SPEECH! He said it was his call and that's how he decided. That wasn't good enough for me. He now knows that I was not happy that this speech had been politicized - and that OUR students were on the losing end of this debate.

Well, I made MY executive decision, and called the school and informed them that I would be picking up thegrandson at 11:30 am. They asked for a reason, which I was forthright and told them - "so he can watch our president give his address to students in America." The reply was, that would be an unexcused absence! My reply - "then do what you have to do - I'm picking him up!" When I showed up at the school, not a word was said and out the door we went. As you can see here, thegrandson watched Obama's speech online - although it was also on CNN live. Thegrandson was nodding his head at so many of the statements, and when it was over, we discussed exactly what he thought was being said.

Thegrandson is like most nine year olds, quick and sharp. He caught on to every word and the reasoning to stay in school, set goals and strive to be the best you can be. I'm not ashamed of what I did, nor would I hesitate to do it in the future.

I have fired off e-mails to the local TV stations and news outlets, expressing my disdain for these shallow and racist people...and their decisions. I also put into the e-mails, that our school superintendent even suggested that they would "capture the speech and put it on their website." BS!!!!! These kids do not go to that website, another LAME excuse.

Enough of that for now. Thegrandson has all his homework completed for tomorrow and is playing until his friends get home from school. All is well in my household!

If anyone follows me on Facebook...I spent a great deal of time there this morning, and I am grateful for all my friends and family...and their support!

Have a great day all....mine is soooo much better now!!

With all the end of the year school activities, I apologize for the lackadaisical posts. I might have a video of thegrandsons singing debut later. Love him to pieces. So don't abandon ship yet, I shall returns.....later.....

NO EXCUSE FOR STUPIDITY....

In my lifetime, I have been in charge of hiring and firing personnel, but I always tried during the interview process to place a person suited to the position. Life has become easier for most in the retail industry - as debit/credit cards are used far more than ever before, thus eliminating the challenge of MAKING CHANGE!

Today, after enjoying a birthday party for the middle grandson (turned 14 today), we stopped at Burger King on the way home. Follow close here, this is NOT complicated at all. The order came to $14.17. I gave this older woman a twenty dollar bill and 17 cents in change. She is giving me $5.97 back in change. I reiterated to her that I gave her the 17 cents, and this is the incorrect change. I get this blank stare and a jaw dropped to the counter.

Oh God, I'm going to have fun with this woman. Just a note, when she handed me the change it was all in singles - so I'm handing this money back to her and she takes just ONE dollar out of my hand and says "Thank You." Straight out of the comics, my head did the "double take", I looked at thedaughter - which garners a "don't strangle her mom!"

Now, I have to just tell her plainly - "I gave you a twenty and the correct change - you owe me $6." Stammering, she whimpers "I punched in the wrong numbers - I need ones." She then grabs a large amount of ones out of her drawer and disappears to the front of the restaurant. WTF?!?!?! She has a gazillion ones and "NEEDS" more ones??? The end result - I get five one dollar bills and 4 quarters back in change. ARGH!!!! I cruise up to the second window to get the order, and tell the girl - to please tell Kathy (the manager) that she needs to train her people HOW TO MAKE CHANGE! I get the cursory apology, and we go merrily on our way home.

I have worked with money and figures most of my life and making change has never seemed like a difficult task. My children have never had a problem in this area either. But I had a friend, an older woman, very intelligent - who admitted she could NOT make change. She said she would freeze if she had to make that computation in her head. I was truly amazed.

I guarantee that my grandchildren will know how to make change - even if it is never taught in school. Could you imagine if I had given the woman at the fast food restaurant (story above) a twenty dollar bill and a quarter? I might have been a lot richer when I pulled out of the lot.

Have to get thegrandson ready for bed - it's a school night...and thunderstorms are headed this way. I can't complain, the weather has been great for the past three days, and now it is going to cool off again. But I have my sandals on and that is where they will stay...till October or November.

Have a good one all.....Later............

I've made an EXECUTIVE decision.....

Last week, when picking up an "order" from the grandson's school (you know, those things the kids have to sell), thedaughter asked the assistant principal, if the school was going to watch the Inauguration of Barack Obama on January 20th. Basically, he said they would not be viewing the historic event en masse, but if the 2nd grade teachers wanted to, they could allow the children to watch, as they were the only class involved in a mock election.

I'm sorry folks...that is not good enough for this old broad. The day before, the school will be out of session for the MLK holiday - well, hello there...and Barack Obama taking the oath of the highest office in our country, AND being the first black president to boot - is not good enough for our children and grandchildren to observe??????

Thegrandson is 8 years old, and highly conscious of what is going on in the world (on that level), and the fact that he listened to me spout all the views I had for months.

EXECUTIVE DECISION is as follows...thegrandson will not be attending school on January 20, 2009. It's black and white, no arguments. He will be here in the home and taking in and absorbing most of that historic event. Granted, he may not sit still for the entire process, but he will REMEMBER the important parts, to pass on to his children.

We carry the memories of other historic occasions which were not foreseen, as to where we were, what we were doing. I intend to make sure that thegrandson will view this as a family enjoyment and that the main gist of this event will stay with him for a lifetime.

I can't wait for the school to call a truant officer on me...I will barricade myself in the house at least until the ceremonies are completed. I am reverting back to my "protest" days...except it all seems so much easier now! Hee-hee!

So, now that the decision has been made - I can breathe easier. Enjoy the day. Later............

Back to school sleeping habits...NOT!!

School begins earlier and earlier every year it seems. With the usual "make-up" days for snow school cancellations, school is out for the summer the first week of June and now the kids start back August 21st. "Back in the day", school NEVER started before Labor Day. I truly believe that year round school is inevitable - at this rate. One thought locally, is that since football games (for High School) are being played early, that a requirement of the State governing agency requires schools to be in session.....I say BS! Let the kids enjoy the last days of summer!!

Be that as it may, I have been trying to get thegrandson back on an early bedtime, in preparation for getting up early for the bus. So far, IT IS NOT WORKING!!! The little chap is like his mother, a night person. I can get him bathed, teeth brushed, all the little nuances of bedtime preparation - and the little stinker can find every excuse in the book of "why NOT to go to sleep!" I put him to sleep in my bed, and when his mother gets home from work, she carries him up to his bed (I am physically not able to carry the load upstairs!)

Miracle of miracles, last night was a GREAT night. No arguments, the TV went off, no claims of being afraid of the dark...and he has this inherent knack of taking over the entire bed. These pics are actually tame - if he ends up sleeping with me - he may end up literally on top of me, or upside down in the bed...such an erratic sleeper!

Thegrandson is very "long", he is ALL legs, like his grandfather and sperm pop! Thank God he is not short and stout like the rest of us!! Hee-hee!

Oh well, that's my input for the moment. I'm proud of myself, I also figured out how to set up my cell for Twitter. I may be old...but still some of my brain is working! Later guys! TTFN

...had a nice weekend - ALL ALONE!!

This past weekend was just great. Theson was in Cleveland with Jules and college buddy, thedaughter went to Virginia and thegrandson was at the sitters...and I had the house all to myself. This doesn't happen very often and I just relished the moment. I planned on cleaning a closet...but that notion quickly passed. It wasn't a task that actually HAD TO BE DONE...just one where I get in the mood for rearranging and sorting. As plans go...pfft...didn't happen. On Saturday I just hopped in and out of bed, sometimes napping, and other times watching TV. It is nice when you don't actually have to be anywhere or do anything for a change. My friend called later in the evening and had brought home dinner for me so I went to their house and we watched the Steelers beat Washington Redskins (although I had my doubts for awhile.)

Theson is in Bristol, TN for NASCAR race this weekend and he will be updating his NT blog as well as The Bristol Experience site - so stop by those two sites for updates.

Thegrandson is so excited to be starting back to school on Thursday, he has all his supplies and has been getting back to an earlier bedtime. We are going to let him walk home after school, when he gets off the bus this year (except for inclement weather), and now he realizes he is becoming a "big" boy. This is great.

Enough for now - everyone stay healthy and TTFN. More later.
