Since my son has just begun his freshman year in college this really hit home. What an amazing video-- cram packed with statistics, some of which are a little scary. (BTW my word verification is: dang. I'll say!)
apart from the fact that some number of the 'facts' aren't true, it's pretty kewl.
The first 'mis-statement' that jumped out at me is "that we are educating kids for jobs that don't yet exist."
It's wrong on so many levels I don't know where to begin. But I'll start with: We aren't educating kids at all. We are training them--when we are actually training them, even--for jobs that won't exist in a couple of years.
I posted a couple of essays regarding education over the weekend, on The Pond. It is a subject about which i can discourse a great length.
E.g.: It is the (tacit) purpose of American Schools to ensure that as small a number of children as possible are able to escape the social/economic niches for which they were born--despite the heroic efforts of dedicated teachers, who struggle valiantly against the implacable 'corporatization/militarization' of the schools.
Born and raised in Parkersburg, WV - moved to Bellaire, Ohio in 1974. I am the proud mother of 3 and grandmother of 3. Opinionated of course and political follower. Blog as a therapeutic outlet - whether it makes sense or not. Enjoy.

Wow. You are right...very interesting, and a bit scary. Now I feel obsolete.
We are but just a mere speck in the big litter box in the sky, just don't get any cat stuff on you.
