R.I.P. SOUPY SALES..........CHILDHOOD FAVORITE!

I guess it really didn't take much to entertain us in our youth. Soupy Sales was one of the best, in my opinion. It was slap-stick, and a large quantity of ad-lib, rolled into one presentation.

The pies in the face are the legacy of this man's career. No one was safe from the plate of meringue...Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Lucille Ball and many more.

This video has Soupy singing "The Mouse" - which was corny at best, but we all sang along. (About the 3:30 mark).

Gone along with Soupy are White Fang, the meanest, biggest dog in the U.S.A., of which we only saw a shaggy white paw - in the doorway or stretching into view from the side of the camera. Black Tooth - the complete opposite of White Fang, being sweet and loving. Black Tooth's "paw" would drag Soupy off camera and we all heard the "kissing" sounds being given to Soupy. Pookie the Lion would appear occasionally in the window and offer up another corny joke or two. These characters are now relegated to shows of the past and memories we will carry.

I always considered Soupy Sales a fellow West Virginian, as he was raised in Huntington, WV and graduated from Marshall University (journalism). Of course he moved on to bigger venues, but he always came home to WV at various times, whether for charity or shows.

R.I.P. Soupy Sales.....thanks for the memories!

I never saw any of his kiddy shows, just when he was on other shows. From what I saw of him, he was a funny guy.
