ARGHHHH...NO STEELERS TODAY.....

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a bye this week, and this really throws me for a loop. The upside is that the team has more time to rest up in order to defeat the "to date undefeated" Denver Broncos on Monday night the 9th. I won't be in a jam as there are plenty of games on to keep me occupied.

I read that the Cleveland Browns fans are asking everyone at the game to be late in entering the stadium tomorrow night (televised game). The premise is that since the game is televised they are showing their displeasure with the team and management, and an empty stadium - never looks good! This could be interesting.

Locally, the Steelers are by far the favorite team, but we have more than a fair share of Browns fans as well. A good many Browns fans gave up on the team when Modell moved to Baltimore (Ravens). Since the team reappeared - they now have new as well as some of the old fans.

It was fairly cold last night for Trick or Treat in the neighborhood. I gave out 300 pieces of candy. Trust me, we do not have that many kids in our neighborhood. the police patrol quite well for this hour of fun, and monitor all the cars (some WV plates) that park at the mom and pop store, at the entrance to the area. I think it has gotten out of hand honestly. I'm not sure if these families feel they get better treats or if the area is just safer, but it is a little much.

I almost refused candy to a boy (with a BEARD - his own), because I felt he was too old. He said he was 15, but with the hair on that face, I would guess much older. Thegrandson looked great in his HELLBOY costume, and received enough candy to open a store.

I had "crime scene" tape criss-crossing the front porch, the jack-o-lanterns lit, and a strobe light in the background - and managed to NOT GET ANY PICTURES!! It was fantastic. I close off the porch one way or another, so the kids do not come for treats - since I go a few doors up the street to a neighbors to hand out the goodies. It's probably been about ten years since I have actually handed candy out from my own house. I'd rather have someone to chat with during the melee, than be bored here alone.

Getting the red make-up off thegrandson was a treat. I used my make-up remover and he was whining the entire time - but it all came off rather well. All the candy has been sorted out - thedaughter took some to work with her, some was trashed, and the remainder will be doled out sparingly.

There are a couple of neighbor kids that we are close with, and I made up "special" treats for them...all but one received their package. Thegrandson will deliver the last one to his friend in a little while.

I've changed the kitty litter, have a load of wash in, and now I need to mop the kitchen floor. Whether that task gets accomplished, remains to be seen. The sun is out (only 45*), and I think I wasted that "bonus" hour of sleep....a nap sounds wonderful!!

Have a great Sunday. I shall return....later.........

I NEED A HANDYMAN.....

Sunday is my day for football, right??? Not at the moment it would seem. I don't even know how long ago it was, that I replaced the toilet seat with an Oak seat with metal hinges. But I know now, that I will NEVER do that again.

It has rusted and become unsightly - so I bought a "soft" cushion seat one yesterday. Figuring, I have replaced many a seat in my lifetime, I decided to tackle this job before settling in to my day of football.

So far, I have used every expletive I know (and I know thousands), and the rusted bolts are still attached. Several doses of WD-40 have not helped me with this task either. The bathroom now looks like a plumber's toolbox...wrenches, pliers, ratchets...you name it - I have the tool, but apparently NOT the strength. My patience has literally gone on vacation also!!

Having been married to a plumber, I did learn quite a bit - especially how to swear properly! I have come to the conclusion that this job is best left to one much stronger than myself. I try to do as much as I can by myself...but now I feel I am going to have to ask for help. Thedaughter says she will accomplish this task when she gets home from work - but she has no strength in her wrists either.

I hate being this frustrated. Maybe it is because I have to recognize the fact of my age and heart issues, and that I am no spring chicken anymore. This is not a frame of mind I am willing to give into - yet!

For all this time I have been fighting with the water closet - I could have built a fucking outhouse!!

I QUIT!!! The tools will remain in the bathroom till thedaughter makes her attempts. For me....I'm going to put on another pot of coffee and get ready for the Steelers/Bears meet up!!

Have a great weekend (what's left) all....later...........

**There will be updates as to this task - have no fear.

MAN WITH ONE BRAIN CELL LEFT!!

Well, the infamous HUFFER (Patrick Tribbett) has been arrested AGAIN!! He was spotted by some young boys, huffing his favorite gold paint in McMechen, WV this time. Of course, he was taken straight to the Northern Regional Jail - his home away from home, and settled in nicely I'm sure!

In all honesty, I don't believe he has ever hurt anyone, while inhaling the brain cell killer - but it is an illegal offense and following protocol, he has to be incarcerated. This has to be at least the 8th or 9th time (locally) he has been arrested for the same act since 1998.

I do find it interesting that the cops NEVER let him wash his face before the conventional MUG shot! At least this way, we know for sure whether he is on a gold or silver kick at the moment.

He goes through the process, gets fined, and is back out on the streets. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a job, nor could he possibly hold one down - so how and if these fines get paid - I doubt it! But this poses the question - why isn't he sentenced to rehab or medical care?

I have heard him converse (or sort of) and he makes very little sense, the result, of course, of the inhalants. Until he is cured - or dead...he will continually keep being arrested and new pictures will emerge. These are four pics I have had saved in chronological order...and the only difference in all would be whether his hair is combed or not!! EGADS!!

I think I watched almost every single moment of Ted Kennedy's funeral service. I have to say, I cannot remember any Senator ever having such an elaborate service, but cannot imagine Kennedy's being anything but such as it was.
Listening to Ted, Jr. and Patrick eulogize their father so eloquently was beautiful. Rest In Peace Teddy...and hopefully we can move forward and get the health care reform you so diligently championed!
***********************
I had an enjoyable evening last night, the neighbors came over for steaks on the grill and good conversation. We often chat while they are grilling something "over the back fence." So I figured I like to cook and have company, so last night was the night. We stayed on the deck till the Steeler game was over, although it got quite chilly - then off they went to get their 5 year old daughter in bed, me to clean up (love my dishwasher) and get thegrandson in bed.
Since I noted this on Facebook...my neighbor across the street will be invited next, as I think they feel slighted - that would never happen. And NO - the asshole "new neighbors" will NEVER be invited!!! Harumph!

Have a great day and I shall return.....Later...............

TAKING A BREAK FROM ALL THE CHAOS....

There is so much going on at the present time...AIG, bonuses, blame Obama, blame this one and that...I am taking a break from it all!!!

I choose to rant a little about my trip to Wally World yesterday. There are actually three Walmart's, equi-distant from my home, so yesterday I chose the one on the WV side of the river, south of my home. WTF is it with older women (that would be my age group), and GOING BRALESS???? I have been cursed or blessed in some minds, with boobs that have to be suspended in a bra at all times. God forbid I was a jogger, I would suffer a broken jaw and two black eyes, with these babies flopping wildly on their own. Oh...and FYI...I would not know if it is true or not that going braless - pulls the wrinkles out of your face or not!

These - and there were several - women were on the plus size, and wearing thin t-shirts or tank tops - and to even suppose they might be wearing a good foundation was a no-brainer. Gross, I tell you. Damn, their shoulders and backs have to kill them at the end of the day. Being nauseated almost immediately, I hurried my shopping and left the premises.

Sorry son...I know you get the creeps when I talk boobs and stuff!!! It just has to be said. I guess I must be blessed that they weren't wearing bikini's or thongs (I didn't check that close).

I have been shackled to the puter and calculator, as many of my clients are running later than usual this year. Usually I have a lull the first two weeks of March - but it has really been steady. The one client I have been working on for two days (still not complete), barters with me for their return. He is a contractor - and bartering works so well for me. I can't decide whether I want more gravel to expand the parking beside my house - or maybe get a new french door for the kitchen - which would involve closing in part of the wall. Decision, decisions...life is tough. I have a NINE foot sliding glass door in the kitchen - which I loved when I bought this house, but now it needs replaced as too much cold air comes through.

I had a large great dane/black lab mix dog - who jumped on the door constantly, which definitely loosened the door in the tracks. The screen is shot - yes, a new door, this would be my ideal change this year.

***************

This is my NEW computer wallpaper...a panoramic shot of Pittsburgh with SIX Super Bowl trophies throughout the background. Awesome.

I should be able to polish off the bottle of Vodka tonight with a couple more appletini's. Thedaughter is shocked....I say "get over it!" It's not like I do this for a living.

I ran out of some supplies and headed to Staples a short time ago - and took along the four empty laser cartridges - they give me a $3 coupon for each one - isn't that cool. In the past, I have always shipped them back to HP via UPS - no money for me or nothing. I try to avoid Staples at all costs though...I could shop in there for hours. I need a new printer and would like one with the scan, copy, fax features, and they really aren't that expensive. But I have my priorities and a new printer isn't on the list this year. I'm sad about that, but what can I do.

Gotta run for now...everyone behave. I'll return....later.........

**I just noticed I LOST one of my followers..wuz up with that? They are hard enough to get as it is! Curses. And please stop by and read Margaret & Helen's latest entry.

Ahhhhh...the memories....

I just got a call to a Super Bowl party, actually from someone who's parties I attended for several years...but alas, I probably won't make it there. I am now getting super hyped - can ya tell?

I'm sure there are some old folk out there who remember this play from the '70's...quite memorable.

TTFN, I shall return later............

And ALL is well with the world....Obama's on our side!!

This past Fall, when Obama was campaigning in Pennsylvania, Mr. Rooney, owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers had a big campaign rally at Heinz Field. Several season ticket holders, from what I read, called and complained that they would not renew their tickets, because of Rooney's stance with Obama. Mr. Rooney's reply was along the lines of "fine, there are plenty of people waiting for tickets." Which is quite true - I was on a waiting list for ten years, before I finally gave up. I rely on friends with tickets now - beggar that I am.

Now, having seen this, I have even better feelings about a WIN for the Steelers on Sunday. If the Steelers are the pick of our Prez...hey, I believe that to be a sign of some sort. (I have no doubts anyway!)

Thedaughter will be working a 3-11:30 pm shift, so having to babysit...I will be watching the Super Bowl and legendary SIXTH win here at home by my lonesome. No problem...I can yell louder!!!!

That's my sign-off post for the night. Be back tomorrow - another "snow day" for the schools (they only had a short day this week), and they are definitely in the make-up days now. I hope they just shorten Easter holidays and cut out some in-service days. I am hearing rumors of a 'Noreaster headed our way the beginning of the week...I hope someone is LYING!!!

I'M BAAAACK!!!! Just a quickie for now though....

Well, I'm back in the warmth of my home and all of a sudden I seem to be rushing to get so much accomplished. Needless to say, Tax Season is upon me, so I finished downloading my program this morning...now all I need to do is get some supplies.

I had the most super, wonderful, marvelous time in the Boston area. Although, these are the relatives of my late best friend...I have adopted them as my own - and they can't get rid of me now! It is so comfortable to just sit around and catch up on news and not have to be entertained the entire time.

I do believe we celebrated THE birthdays, the entire five days. What a great time. The trip home was another story. the plane left on time from Logan in Boston and arrived on time in Pittsburgh to a steady snowfall. What normally is a 50 minute drive to the airport - took over two hours in getting home. We fought idiots, ice and snow the entire way...and at a speed of 30 - 35 mph. My nerves were shot. So now we are staying inside out of this horrendous weather.

Thedaughter and thegrandson could not wait to give me my birthday present, so they had me open the box in the car on the way home last night. I am on cloud nine again...they know me so well....here is the super present:

Curses, I should have wiped the fingerprints off before taking this picture. But it has my name and #1 Fan, engraved on the plate. I could not have been any happier - and to see the smile on thegrandson's face - priceless.

I have to show you - my birthday present to myself - I'm so stupidly generous sometimes.....

This little guy stands 11" high and is called a "garden gnome", but trust me, it will never get close to any dirt!!! He is just adorable. I may be obsessed here, but I will get over it - or not!

I have to run for now - lots to do, but I will get back with pictures from the trip and more updates. Oh, by the way....I never travel without my camera....until this trip. I was so mad at myself, but theJo burned a CD of the pics taken during my visit and I will be sharing.

So take care for now - so glad you all didn't forget me. Later............

Before I get into today's events...

Here is the NEW 2008-2009 - Pitsburgh Steeler Song/Video. Thanks to theson, over in Egypt for being one step ahead of me on this one!!!

The song is now updated to include the current roster of players - gets me stoked! I will probably end up placing it on my sidebar, after Super Bowl LXIII.

I'm wiating for the sun to rise on this NEW day - for our NEW President and a NEW future!! Have a great day - there will be many posts today I am sure.

It's Polamalu............

I'm on Cloud 9 - I even Skyped theson at 5:20 am HIS time....heehee...and played the Steeler Super Bowl song as loud as I could. But here's another great one - Troy Polamalu made one helluva an interception for a touchdown - I'm amazed the walls of my house are still standing!!!

Yes, I am giddy with glee...my Pittsburgh Steelers are going to the Super Bowl (XLIII) in Tampa, Fl on February 1, 2009.

Enjoy.

Football & Comfort Food........ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

6:30 pm

I am on pins and needles, with the upcoming games today. I know, how stupid is that, you say...but I can't help this. My idea of a great Super Bowl, would be Philadelphia and Pittsburgh - battle of the Pennsylvania's, but I have a feeling Arizona is going to be the winner of that game. Ken Whisenhunt, coach of the Arizona Cardinals, was the offensive coordinator for the Steelers before taking this job (right after Cowher retired). He has been fortunate in creating a substantial foe with the Cardinals, I might add.

So, I have been to the grocery store, early this morning, while the snow was coming down. The chili is made - ummmmmm - now doesn't this look great???

I have some shrimp, leftover meat loaf (if anyone wants a sandwich) - and I made a sausage/salsa dip. Unfortunately, this dip will not last till tomorrow. It is so good - everyone devours it immediately. This is not the best picture (looks kind of gross actually), but yummmmmmmmmy!

1 pound Bob Evans original recipe sausage (bulk)

1 jar Tostidos salsa

1 pound Velveeta cheese

Brown sausage and break into small pieces while cooking. Add salsa. Slowly add Velveeta cheese (cubes) till melted. This dip is exceptionally better warm. Can be microwaved to reheat. Delicious.

Thegrandson and I have our Steeler gear on - and I mean gear here. I have earrings (studs & dangles) rings, bracelets, jerseys....I even have Steeler outerwear, but I know I won't be needing all that in the house. Yes, have you caught on that I am a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan?? No doubt about it!

Everyone have a great Sunday - and I may return, one never knows.....Later..................

The Original Here We Go Superbowl Video 2006

There's no Randel-el or Bettis this year, and Bill Cowher will be in the FOX studios. I hope I'm not counting my chickens to early...but I love the song - gets us revved up around here. I say one for "the other thumb!"

Thegrandson is well trained to belt out this little ditty! It worked in Super Bowl XL...we hope XLIII will be the same.

Mini-crisis it would appear....

Bless thegrandson's little heart...his Uncle gave him a PSP over 2 years ago, and he has honestly taken good care of the unit - for the most part. Last evening, he came crying to me, and said "I broke my PSP!" Well, one look at the screen was a definite sign of cataclysm. I just hate when he cries, my heart breaks into a million pieces. His mother and I have differing views on this matter - as she told him, once it was broken, he would not be getting another. Hmmmm.... I can see where she is coming from, but if this had happened soon after he started playing the game - at 6 years old - then it would show definite irresponsibility. My observation is that he has taken very good care of the game, and accidents DO happen ...so we should reconsider replacing his PSP.

I have checked e-Bay and Amazon, and I think we can replace this game for around $140 - this would be a used one of course. After tax season begins, I will have some spare change - he will just have to wait a couple of months. Let me tell you, 8 year olds do not have a lot of patience either!

***********************
Sitting around these past couple of days is driving me totally insane. As if my butt isn't wide enough already?!?!? In dribs and drabs, we have managed to get the Christmas tree taken down and put away, and I have lined up some of the Santa's to await their removal to the appropriate containers. That's about as far as we have managed the "take down" of Christmas. All in good time I guess.
This morning, while thedaughter and thegrandson were still asleep, I decided it was time to "clean the fridge!" Thedaughter's ideas of cleaning and mine vary significantly - but in this case, I take out all the shelves to be washed, drawers and guides also.

Now, I have a nice clean refrigerator (inside) - and if you look closely, not a blessed thing to make a decent meal from!!!!

The fun part, is that having all the drawers and shelves laid out, drying and awaiting their RE-placement inside - Angel (our lovely dog) acts like I have infringed on HER living space. She is the best dog as I have stated many times, but she is jealous of the cat, and has to be crammed up your ass at all times. I sit in a chair - wham!!! She is laying right up on my leg. Sometimes I feel bad that as I move, she jumps up and meanders around, and that I may have inconvenienced her in someway. Have no fear...I will get over that. Last night, I must have been in a "mean" mood, but I was pitting the dog and cat against each other - unfortunately there is a downside to that game...the dog (huge as she is) ends up on top of me and the cat will be on my head.

**************************

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. San Diego Chargers

This is the game I am waiting for. In the FOX pregame show, former Steeler quarterback Terry Bradshaw opined that San Diego will win handily and I wanted to jump through the screen and throttle him. He was actually in the minority opinion, but I think there should be some loyalty, even though he has been gone for 30 years. The NY Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles game is a close on at the moment...so I think it is time to leave here and give the games my total concentration.

Have a lovely Sunday all and I will be back....later...........

OK - Holiday Mix is done....

I just can't get up the energy to start on the Pumpkin cookies. I think I may just do them tomorrow while thedaughter is at work, and thegrandson is at school. I had three batches of this Holiday mix at various spots in my tiny kitchen, waiting for the chocolate to cool, in order to break it into pieces. Surprisingly, I hate regular Chex mix...but add white chocolate to it, and this is delicious.

This is one of the containers full of the mix, ready for me to divvy up to a few friends. I forgot to get more green & red M&M's at the store, so I had to make do with what I had left here in the house. I approximate about a quarter of a bag short, so it could be a little more colorful. Oh, well...it's still good.

My Steelers are looking like crap at the moment. Therefore, no way am I going to start another cookie project, as it would take away from me yelling and screaming at the TV. Interceptions, fumbles...it's enough to make my hair fall out...oh - it already has!!!

Enjoy the end of the day, I will still be here screaming at the boob tube. So Later.............

Last pre-season game...then the race starts

The preseason has been good so far 4-1 (loss to Green Bay 13-9) and tonite's game is the final preseason game against Carolina Panthers. Granted, you can't gauge much from these early games as it is the time to pare down the rosters, but I do so love NFL football. (Especially MY Steelers) So, my friend, Circuit City better have your big screen TV fixed or replaced by 8pm tonite or we will camp out on Circuit City's doorstep till they make it right!! A good protest never hurt anyone!

Theson has been in New York since Monday afternoon and will be leaving this afternoon for Columbus, Ohio (flying) to head to Myrtle Beach with the guys for a bachelor party (for T). He is totally enjoying this vacation time by travelling "everywhere." He stops at home long enough for me to do his laundry - wouldn't change it for the world. Hopefully, when he returns home everything will be ready for him to transfer title, pay taxes, and transfer plates - then drive his new truck!!!

HEY JEN...HOPE YOU DROPPED BY TO CHECK OUT THIS SITE!!! THESONS IS "NOMADIC TENDENCIES" ON RIGHT - CHECK HIS OUT TOO!!

...and Rich|Championable...I mean it - we can amass an army for you!!

Everyone take care and stay healthy...TTFN!

Steeler football season is back...hurray!!!

Well, we have seen the second preseason game for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it wasn't quite as good a game as last weeks, but then again, this is the time where they sort the good players from the bad, to pare the roster.

Third string quarterback for the Steelers, St. Pierre, I didn't think performed as well as last week, and he was in the game for almost 3 1/2 quarters. As for Green Bay, Brett Favre appeared to be outplayed by Rogers - their second string QB. This is probably Favre's last year - retirement is looming.

Since this is the 75th anniversary season for the Steelers they have prepared a new logo (seen here) and adopted a "MASCOT!" I don't think I am really impressed by this large steelworker mascot, now named STEELEY MCBEAM. We only saw this mascot during the opening of the game and never after that - but I assume he will be prancing around the stadium during games.

During two of the seasons games the team will be wearing "throwback" uniforms, which are not that different other than the "yellow" helmets.

NOTE: For anyone wondering why there is a "green dot" on the back of the QB's helmets - after googling this question I found out that this designates which player has an "earpiece/mic" in their helmet - as by NFL rules there is only allowed one player from each team on the field to have this appliance.

Have to accomplish some things today - so must run for now - everyone stay healthy and TTFN!!

my friend John...BIG STEELER FAN!!

Monday, April 16th, I took theson and myfriend John and his mom Claudia to a local basketball benefit. The Pittsburgh Steelers played a local private boys school. And... the boys school actually beat the Steelers.

A girlfriend of mine and I collaborated for months to get the Steelers to present my friend John with "something" as he is such an avid fan - and I must mention he has been a quadriplegic for 17 years, after a high school football injury.

In one pic, Mel Blount former Hall of Famer Steeler, presents John with a T-shirt signed by Ben Roethlisberger (and Big Ben does NOT sign autographs), so John was totally ecstatic. The second pic is with Brian McFadden, former FSU player and that is John's favorite college team. All in all, John had a super evening - although we kept him up past his bedtime, which meant we had to call for help at a later time than usual to get him in bed. This was a treat for my buddy, as he had just spent over 5 months bedridden with a bedsore, and has only been getting back in HIS wheelchair for a little over a week. John is such a smart young man (34 yrs old) and sports enthusiast. His mother, is a constant worry wort - but she has devoted her entire life to seeing that John is cared for properly. The doctors and nurses are amazed at his excellent skin
condition, considering most long term quads have major skin breakdowns. I try to get in to visit them several times a week, and talk to his mom daily. Now that summer is here, we gather on their front deck, so John can watch all the traffic and his friends go by. And a great majority stop to chat with him.

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU JOHN!!! LUV YA BABY!!
