On...I had a similar thing happen to me in college. One of my good friends (a guy) invited me down to be a date for one of his friends at a military dance. I went by his frat the next day and he couldn't even get out of bed. He had been complaining for weeks about being thirsty, his eyesight wasn't right, he was really tired all the time, etc. I dressed him, had two of his frat brothers carry him to my car. I told him he had two choices - I could call his mom, or he could go to the hospital. He wisely chose the hospital.

The hospital was about 3 blocks away, but he couldn't remember how to get there. It took us about 25 minutes to finally find the damned thing. I brought him in, told them I was his finacee (so they'd let me in the room), and he was totally incoherent and passing in and out. They did one test, put him on an insulin drip and after about an hour, he was fine. When they started the drip, I called his mom. She got in her car (she was 3 hours away) to come down. By the time she got there Jim was totally fine, chatty, good mood, everything was fine. I looked like something the cat had dragged in - I had been out late the night before, no shower, got to the frat at 8 am because I was so worried about him, was convinced he was going to die on the way to the hospital, etc. The doctors told me he had been about 20 minutes away from a diabetic coma; luckily I was told that after I called his mom.

She came in and he looks fine and she said to me "Honey, you look like something the cat dragged in. Have you even eaten yet (this at about 3 in the afternoon)?" "Um,no." And she said, "we're leaving him here - where's your stuff?" "At the house (the frat house)." "We're going to get you a sandwich, I'll take you to the hotel, you can take a little nap, you can fix yourself up and then we'll go out to dinner. You'll stay overnight with me and drive home tomorrow, you can miss a day of school." And Jewel does NOT take no for an answer. You do what she says or she will kick your ass.

Good call on your part - diabetes is not something to fuck around with.Lisa G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02909155560510148815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20279539.post-4755139905362012342010-02-10T14:39:53.011-05:002010-02-10T14:39:53.011-05:00That woman is some piece of work. It's so much easier to eat well and still eat what one likes now than it ever has been! I cannot recommend agave syrup as a sugar substitute enough! I haven't met anyone who has tried it and didn't like it.

Good luck to you, the son and everyone dealing with blizzards.Calihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00124023839136539246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20279539.post-61602961216121285872010-02-09T19:30:05.912-05:002010-02-09T19:30:05.912-05:00Holy crap, you people better start taking better c...Holy crap, you people better start taking better care of yourselves. ;o) I can't afford to lose any liberal buddies.Dr. Monkey Von Monkersteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14370062692837972451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20279539.post-26792758714496330562010-02-09T17:06:12.889-05:002010-02-09T17:06:12.889-05:00Glad theson will be ok, that's a scary story b...Glad theson will be ok, that's a scary story but luckily diabetes does have symptoms that are recognizable so you can get treatment fast.

We're about to get our second blizzard in a week, it's been wild but I actually like it.
